I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth. 3 John 1:4

Today we first went to Jessi's church and met more and more of her friends. Then we went to a place called Sea Horse Ranch. You can only get in if you own a place there or are renting, but Ariel used to work there as an accountant so he is still allowed in. It was so beautiful...a huge pool with water falls with caves and then there are also places you can sit and overlook the ocean. That is where I spent most of my time...looking out at the turquoise water watching the waves. I could even see fish from my vantage point. We had food and drinks delivered out to us and later on, an afternoon coffee. Just before sunset, we headed to the restaurant and had dinner as the sun set. Another GREAT day!
Today began with a beautiful sunrise, coffee on the patio and then into the van we went for a ride out to Jarabacoa where Jessi first began with Kids Alive. It was a fun drive with so many things along the way that we just don't see on the roads at home. Donkeys with loads to deliver, a little lost calf, then miles down the road was a whole herd of cattle headed someplace. Then we stopped at a roadside flower stand and bought flowers to take to the family she used to live with. Another place we had to stop and buy a pound of this huge bread that is made from cornmeal. It was the biggest loaf of bread I have ever seen, it is baked over an open fire in a huge round pan, the lady just cut of a hunk of it and off we went. It is only made and sold in that area along the way and Jessi always looks forward to it on her drive to Jarabacoa. (2 1/2 hours away from our hotel) She made sure and stopped at the local Red Cross for me also. It was closed, so we just got a picture.

We ended the day with a hike up to a water falls. I could not believe how we had to get there. I am even more amazed that they were out there with Emily and Joshua a year ago! We had to go most of the way on these wooden bridges, we were so high up and there was only this one little wire to hold on to! There was nothing on the sides and the whole thing just bounced as we walked along. Oh well, I made it out there and back and it was a beautiful falls.
What an awesome thing for her to get to do.

Today we drove to the school where Jessi is a nurse. We had to drive through a sugar cane field. I think it was so hilarious all the things that they will carry on those motor cycles! There was even a guy with his Dalmatian driving his cycle for him! We walked around the village and Jessi introduced us to so many people that have become a part of her life. Then we had lunch at the school with all the kids. Did you see the size of that pot of rice...the spoon to stir it is even better.

This mother orangutan kept eating these leaves while her baby posed for pictures with Joshua and Emily. I didn't write this little poem, it came to me from the internet.

Their marriage was good, their dreams focused. Their best friends lived barely a wave away. I can see them now, Dad in trousers, tee shirt and a hat, lawn mower in his hand and Mom in a house dress and dish-towel in hers. It was the time for fixing things. A curtain rod, the kitchen radio, screen
door, the oven door, the hem in a dress. Things we keep. It was a way of life, and sometimes it made me crazy. All that re-fixing, renewing, I wanted just once to be wasteful. Waste meant affluence. Throwing things away meant you knew there would always be more. But then I had to face a death, and on that clear summer's night, in the warmth of the hospital room, I was struck with the pain of learning that sometimes there isn't any more. Sometimes, what we care about most gets all used up and goes away...never to return. So...while we have it... it's best we love it... and care for it.... and fix it when it's broken..... and heal it when it's sick. This is true... for marriage.... and old cars.... and children with bad report cards..... dogs and cats with bad hips.... and aging parents.... and grandparents. We love them and hold on to them because they are worth it, because we are worth it. Some things we keep. Like a best friend that moved away or a classmate we grew up with. There are just some things that make life important, like people we know who are special.... and so, we keep them close!

Dessert. I had tons of recipes that I have been wanting to try out, so I made a bunch of tiny little bite sized ones. I can't decide which was my favorite. There were the usual Smores, which the kids made even in the rain once the adults went inside. Then the top are cream cheese and raspberry in puff pastry. Left are three kinds of cookies, Lime Meltaways, Cinnamon Bites, and Lemon Crisps. The last ones are dark chocolate and raspberry triangles, and Marion berry squares. Good thing they were small, even if you took one of each, you still only had a tiny plate full.
